90 Companies Take Part in Sofia’s Largest Exhibition for Meat Products and Delicacies
A total of 90 companies are taking part in Sofia’s largest exhibition dedicated to meat products and delicacies. According to Dilyana Popova, Executive Director of the National Association of Meat Processors in Bulgaria, 35 of the participating companies represent the meat-processing industry, including businesses from the Sliven region. Unlike previous editions, this year’s exhibition does not feature companies specializing in additives for meat products. Instead, greater emphasis is placed on manufacturers of machinery and equipment for the meat-processing industry. Visitors can also see specialized vehicles designed for the transportation of meat products. The exhibition continues until 16 November. 30 Years of the National Association of Meat Processors More than 80 companies are members of the National Association of Meat Processors in Bulgaria, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. The Association brings together large, medium-sized and small enterprises from across the sector. In 2024, four new companies joined the organization, demonstrating the continued development and resilience of the industry. Key Challenges for the Meat-Processing Industry Regulatory requirements and labour shortages remain among the biggest challenges facing the sector. The industry operates under strict quality and traceability controls. Producers monitor incoming raw materials, their intended use and every stage of the production process, ensuring full transparency and compliance with food safety requirements. At the same time, businesses are calling for a balanced regulatory environment that supports competitiveness and avoids unnecessary administrative burdens. Another major challenge is the growing shortage of qualified workers. The sector often requires employees to work in demanding conditions, while the average age of the workforce continues to rise. Some companies are addressing this shortage by recruiting workers from abroad, although this also creates additional administrative and organizational responsibilities for employers. Despite these challenges, the Bulgarian meat-processing industry continues to invest in modernization, innovation and high production standards, while exhibitions of this scale remain an important platform for business development, professional networking and presenting the latest technologies and solutions in the sector.
